English

The style English, or Continental, riding came from the merging of the old-fashioned hunting seat, cavalry riding and dressage. The western style of riding is best suited for flat work, whereas the English style can be easily adapted for both flatwork and jumping simply by altering the length of the stirrups and the rider's position on a general purpose saddle.
